MONTESSORI AT HOME

As I sit around, for the most part, waiting for baby to make her arrival, I'm beginning to day dream about turning a little area of our home into a montessori environment.  We have the perfect space on our third floor for such endeavor and I can't wait to introduce our daughter to Montessori at home.  As a montessori teacher I have a good understanding of how the philosophy should be implemented and incorporated but my experience only really lies in the classroom. I also really only have experience with the preschool and kindergarten aged child so incorporating some of the baby and toddler materials and methods will be a new, fun challenge for me. I just started a pinterest board with a bunch of materials and set up's for inspiration.  If you're curious, have a look! I'm anxious to share progress here on the blog about our montessori at home environment and excited to see where our education at home journey takes us.

  2. I wish I could hire you to have Eris too. I want her in Montessori but would love it to be home-based. There's a few very nice Montessori and Montessori-based schools here and I suppose they'll have to do for now. Maybe I'll be brave and pick up some books and start learning something so that I can facilitate her learning with Montessori influence here in our home. Intimidating for this unsure momma, though.

  3. Oh, I'm sure Eris would love the schools in your area! It could be good to send her a couple days a week while you begin to understand and learn the philosophy a bit more by talking to teachers and other parents and start implementing little by little in your home.

  11. My little boy is 3 years old and I just stops by a Montessori School the other day to see what kinds of things they have and do there. I was so excited about the concept that I begin immediately to try to implement what I could in my son's life. I rearranged his room and took down distracting pictures and posters tranquil pictu tranquil pictures to a lower kid friendly level. I bought him a closet rod extender that would allow him to hang up his own clothes in his closet and begin to find socks etcetera on his own. We changed out some plastic bins for some wooden basket we found at the dollar store. I began to let him use all the old teacups and saucers that I have from a garage sale a long time ago. He loves the little plates and getting to put them in and out of the cupboard it's time he uses them. He even is learning to wash his own plate and cup and put them in the drying rack. Its amazing how much little people can do when we give them a chance and when we treat them with the rights that little people deserve. I am very excited to follow your blog!
