OVER THE WEEKEND

July 30, 2012

Yep. I'd say we had a pretty good weekend. We ate cinnamon rolls, celebrated Jess' birthday, picnicked in the park, went to moms where I came home with a bushel of her beautiful daisies and obviously watched an obscene amount of Breaking Bad.  How was your weekend?

SPACES

July 24, 2012

I've really been into the rustic, navajo, desert vibe lately and came across these spaces that have been me in total lust.  As much as I love white space and super clean design my own home tends to fall into the flea market and vintage/modern design category a bit more than the simple, white and clean.  I think it's the colors and print designs that I find so attractive with this style.  It's so cozy and welcoming. Old yet new, bright yet dark. I love the contrast.  What do you guys think? Does your house have a distinct style? Isn't home design so much fun!?

AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

For the past 3 days (pretty much around the clock) Nick has been working on our bathroom.  New vanity, toilet, paint, fixtures, the whole deal.  Today I woke up to it pretty much completed and it looks so so good.  I take for granted sometimes how much he does around the house and just how good he is at it.  He's always doing something- working in the yard, reorganizing the basement, laying new floors, redoing the bathroom.  He's so good to me and our home and I don't tell him enough.  In fact last night I woke up to find him still working and what do I do? Complain about something he took from the family room to use as decor in the bathroom.  Ugh! How awful of me. He's working so hard, making everything look wonderful and I find the tiniest thing to complain about.  So this is my acknowledgement to my husband of  just how wonderful he is.  Thank you for always working so hard to make sure I have everything I need and want.  I could not have asked for a better partner.

ps. can't wait to show off the rest of our new  bathroom soon!

OVER THE WEEKEND

July 23, 2012

How was your weekend? Ours was pretty good minus all the trips to lowes Nick kept running. We decided to renovate our bathroom this weekend which apparently means you need to go to lowes about every 3 hours for some random part you didn't realize you needed. My poor husband :) It's almost finished now and it really is going to look amazing.  He's good.  Aside from spending most of our time in the bathroom we snuck out to the park last night for a free concert and dinner on a picnic blanket. It was lovely.
ps. how adorable is our new little cactus? Ikea's plant section really is wonderful.  Happy Monday!

THANKFULNESS

July 20, 2012

Yesterday while on my way to hang out with my cousins precious 4 month old, I was in a car accident. Thank the lord me and the other man involved are okay but I've never been so scared.  It hadn't rained in weeks and yesterday was rainy, making the roads extremely slick.  5 minutes prior to my wreck I saw a truck on the free way spin completely around and smack into the median.  My heart was racing from witnessing the truck's accident and my mind went right away to prayer- please let that person be okay.  5 minutes later, SMACK. I have no idea what happened, all I could feel was the impact of another car on mine which caused me to spin completely around across all 4 lanes of highway.  I had no control and in those split seconds prayed I didn't flip or get smashed by another car unable to stop.  A miracle really that no one was hurt.  And why? Why were we not hurt? I hate that it takes moments like these to remind us how blessed we really are.  I was spared of any injury whatsoever but gosh could it have ended so much differently.  So today I am thankful.  I am thankful that I am okay, that the other man is okay, and that my family and friends are all okay.  Not because they were involved but just because. Everyone in my life is okay and for that I could not be more thankful.

WE FLEA'D

July 19, 2012

This past weekend we held The City Flea at the newly renovated, insanely beautiful Washington Park in the heart of the city and we could not have been happier with the turnout.  Nick and I are so dang lucky that the city has embraced our vision and project with wide open arms. We're just in our second year and look at all those people! Love this city.  (For those that don't know, Nick and I founded The City Flea which is a curated, urban flea market in Cincinnati Ohio.) If you live in the area would love for you to come to the next Flea, August 18!

Busy as busy can be with a Flea and some friends in town, but it was all really good.  I'm excited to share some photos from our Flea market this past weekend.  We held it at a new space which was beautiful and packed full of people strolling through the city. Happy Monday!

First of all, I stumbled upon this insanely awesome photograph on pinterest today which totally put a huge smile on my face. This little lady was one of my favorite little students from my teaching days in New York City who's mama is one of THE best children's fashion photographers.  How adorable is little Coco!? Love her! Also, how adorable is this new children's line, Cabbages and Kings? I'm in total lust over here. Anyways, how about some friday links, eh? Have a great weekend!

FRIENDS ARE COMING

July 11, 2012

You know those awesome, adorable friends of ours that got married a couple weekends ago? Well, their honeymoon of driving around the country in their pretty vintage scotty trailer is making a pit stop at our house tomorrow! They're only staying for the night before they head west, but how fun!? We have been begging them to come to Cincinnati for the past year and we're so excited they're finally coming, on their honeymoon of all times! Gosh, we love them! Also, the awesome knitted trailer is not theirs but how amazing is it!? Jason and Julianne's is a sleek vanilla colored scotty that we are DYING to see! They've been working like crazy restoring it and i'm sure it's just beautiful.  Isn't having good friends the best?

SIMPLICITY

July 10, 2012

The past few days I've been a tad under the weather which for the most part has kept me away from the internet.  I've talked a bit about this in the past but man oh man, stepping away from the things that cause you stress (accidentally or not) is so good.  You know what I continue to learn every time this happens? The world carries on. What a wonderful thing to realize.  Sometimes it's okay to not have 80,000 things on your plate every day.  Sometimes letting go of things and if that means accepting a little less money too, is okay. Everything is always okay in the end.  I've always been a firm believer that happiness and quality of life far outweigh financial and career success.  I think as long as Nick and I are always supportive of one another, able to pay our mortgage, feed ourselves, and still have a little extra for fun, we're so good.  It's so funny to me, as I reflect on the past 10 years of my life how drastically my mind has shifted.  10 years ago I wanted nothing more than a mega successful career at  PR firm in Los Angeles.  Ha! It sounds so insane today.  Why did I want that? There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting that kind of life but I've just learned so much about what makes me happy over the years that it's funny to think that at one time I thought this LA dream was it.  Today my mind is all about simplicity.  I want to be barefoot in my house cooking breakfast and making coffee, sometimes being lazy, sometimes working my butt off on the things I'm passionate about.  I want to spend more time at home than at some office or workplace.  I want to swing on my porch swing and feel contentment.  I want to raise a family.  I guess I'm just growing up.....

INSTANT LOVE

July 9, 2012

These Instant Love posts are becoming some of my favorites. It's just so fun looking through my instagram friends for the beauty, usually simple moments that I find so appealing. This feed comes from  @garden_and_grove (like all the instagramers i feature here you should be following her!) The neutral colors, white space, and random objects are so good.

SNAPSHOTS FROM A WEEK AGO

We walked the city, sat in coffee shops, ate donuts, arranged flowers, laughed with friends, and sweated... a lot. A good week, indeed. How was your weekend? I was a bit under the weather so most of the past two days were spent on the couch with an endless supply of Netflix movies. I guess if you have to be sick, might as well be entertained, right? Have a great Monday!

THERE WAS A WEDDING

HELLO! I've been away from this space for what seems like an eternity! It was really nice to disconnect this past week and re-connect with friends from New York while we were away for our best friends wedding.  Man oh man, was this wedding dreamy.  Nestled in the hudson valley we watched as two of our dearest friends exchanged vows with more love in their eyes than I've ever seen between two people. It was beautiful and there certainly was not a dry eye there.  After the short but very sweet ceremony, we headed into the old, stunning barn for dinner and dancing. Every detail of the day and of the venue was amazing- It was all Julianne and Jason too (bride and groom.) They're good.  The night was just perfect and being able to spend time at such a magical place with some of our closest friends was all we could ask for.  I would relive this weekend, every weekend if I could.
